Homemade applesauce is truly such an easy thing to make and it makes the house smell amazing!

In this homemade applesauce, instead of mixing in ground spices like Cinnamon, we're using whole spices from our Mulling Spice mix to infuse the apples as they cook.  With cooking on high, this only takes about 2 hours and the apples are soft enough to mash with a fork.  Depending on your texture preference, you can either just mash the apples for a thicker, chunkier texture or use a blender/food processor to blend it to a smooth consistency.

Mulling Spice Applesauce
2 hours 15 minutes total (2 hours cook • 15 minutes prep)
Ingredients
  • 4 Pink Lady Apples (or any other good cooking apple), peeled and roughly chopped
  • 1 jar Mulling Spice Mix
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
Instructions

In a crockpot, add apples, brown sugar and water - stir gently to coat apples in brown sugar.  Place mulling spice in an herb bag or wrap in a piece of cheesecloth so that spices can be removed easily at the end.  Place the mulling spice bag in the center on top of the apples.

Cook on High heat for about 2 hours.  The apples will be very soft when done.

Remove the bag of spices and using either a fork or a blender, mash/blend the applesauce to whatever consistency you prefer.  Store in a jar in the fridge between uses.
