This recipe came out of wanting to have grilled cheese and tomato soup but having no classic canned tomato soup in my pantry!

I had the ingredients around to make something similar but then I saw the Terrapin Ridge Farms Hot Pepper Bacon jam in my pantry and decided to throw it in for fun.  What a great last minute decision!  The jam gives the tomato soup a similar sweetness to what we grew up with but adds a hit of smokiness, as well as obviously BACON.

In a medium sauce pan, add tomato sauce, tomato paste and water.  Whisk the mixture over low heat until the tomato paste is fully incorporated into the tomato sauce.  Add the remaining ingredients and cook for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.  Serve!

Notes

When cooking canned tomatoes or tomato sauce, you need to cook it for at least 20 minutes, preferably longer, as it's needed to cook out the canned taste in the tomatoes.
