Balsamic Strawberry Compote
We doubled down on the strawberry flavor on this one by using our Strawberry Dark Balsamic in this one.
So what is a compote? Basically compote is a fancy way of saying a stewed fruit sauce. A loose jam if you will. Overall simple to make, the most time consuming part is letting the fruit cook down.
This balsamic compote is great for putting over pancakes, french toast, yogurt, ice cream, etc!
- 2 lbs fresh or frozen strawberries, sliced or left whole (depending on the size)
- 3 tablespoons Strawberry Dark Balsamic
- 2 1/8 cups granulated sugar
- pinch of salt
In a medium sauce pan, combine all ingredients. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries have cooked down and the mixture has thickened just slightly, about 40-50 minutes.
Best to let it cool before using - I like to let it sit overnight in the refrigerator so it can firm up a bit!
Try it over our Vanilla French Toast!
